Bio

Patrik Augusta is son of one of the legends of Czechoslovakian hockey and Dukla Jihlava, Josef Augusta. He started his career in the same club and he was one of promising talents of Czech hockey. He competed in 1992 Winter Olympics and 1992 World championship, winning a bronze emdal. After being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 8th round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, he moved to North America and was supposed to be one of the new Czech stars.

However, with his rather small height he was given little opportunity in NHL. He appeared only in 2 games in 1994, and the rest of his matches he played in AHL or IHL. A the the minor leagues he had a strong career, playing for St. John's Maple Leafs of AHL and Los Angeles Ice dogs of IHL. Twice he made second all-star team, AHL in 1993-94, and IHL in 1996-97. Augusta also led the AHL in goals in 1993-94.

He was traded to Washington Capitals in 1998, but also here he only made 2 appearances in NHL. In only 4 games overall he could never show his full potential.

Augusta returned to Europe in 1999, where he finished his career with seven seasons in Germany, playing for Schwenninger Wild Wings, Krefelder EV and finally Hannover Scorpions. Multiple injuries ended his career definitely and Augusta retired after the 2005-06 season.

Shortly after, he was hired by NHL team Phoenix Coyotes as a European Scout. Later on, he became a sport manager for HC Dukla Jihlava, and in 2009 he became their assistant coach. His coaching career continued in junior league and also in Czech republic U16, U17, U18 and U19 teams. For season 2017-18 he became head coach of BK Mlada Boleslav.
