Har alltid haft en given plats i de yngre landslagen. Vid junior-VM 2005 så ställdes han back spel rejält på prov då han mötte stjärnor som bland andra Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin och Ryan Getzlaf. Något som Granath klarade med bravur.
