Ray Theodore 'Ted' Parfet, Jr. and his wife Martha Parfet acquired an IHL expansion franchise in 1973. They owned the franchise, the Kalamazoo Wings, for nearly three decades, before opting to fold the franchise in 2000.
They leased the rights to the team name and logo to Keith Decker who brought a UHL franchise to Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 2000, only to buy it from Decker two seasons later. Martha sold the franchise to Bill Johnston and Ronda Stryker after his death on November 27, 2006.
