Film Room: How Gabe Perreault went from fringe first-rounder to potential top-10 pick

2023 NHL Entry Draft

To say that Gabe Perreault has made a statement with his draft year would be an understatement.

For starters, his team-leading 132 points in 63 games with the USNTDP U18 squad gave Perreault the single-season point and assist records, surpassing the likes of Auston Matthews and Jack Hughes in the process.

And while many in the industry – including some of the scouts in our ranks – greeted his gaudy scoring with a healthy dose of skepticism, his exceptional showing at the U18s was enough to make just about everyone a believer. He tied linemate, tournament MVP, and prospective top-five pick Will Smith for the lead in tournament scoring en route to helping his country secure gold.

Now, Perreault has gone from a fringe first-round pick at the start of the year to our 20th-ranked prospect and someone with the potential to sneak into the top-10. Let's examine some of the skills that made his meteoric rise possible.
