VICKERS: Peyton Krebs Continues Fight Through Adversity En Route to 17th Overall Selection

VANCOUVER — There was no way Peyton Krebs was scooting across that stage.

Buoyed by a partially torn Achilles while training earlier this month, the 18-year-old — who had just heard his name called at No. 17 — hobbled his way through the crowd, up the stairs and across the platform to meet with the Vegas Golden Knights at the 2019 NHL Draft.

Under his own power.

“I had my brace on here,” Krebs started. “I got it made.

“But now… I was not riding that scooter across the stage. That’s all I knew. I was walking. We made it happen. I was fortunate to have some good people around me, and my surgeon, they allowed me to do that.

“It’s pretty special. I can’t wait to get started. It feels so good to have a team.

“It’s amazing.”

The movement, naturally, was worth the moment.
