WILLIAMS: One-on-One With AHL President & CEO Dave Andrews – Part 2

Dave Andrews had already seen the hockey business from all sorts of angles as a player, head coach, and general manager before he took over as AHL president and chief executive officer 25 years ago next month.

His hockey tenure stretches more than 40 years as he prepares this summer for his final season leading the AHL. Andrews will conclude his 26th campaign atop the AHL in the summer of 2020.

His departure will mean the AHL will have a new leader for the first time since 1994 when Andrews replaced the late Jack Butterfield. A member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Butterfield had guided the AHL’s 1960s-era transition from a largely independent circuit to a league centred around NHL affiliations. Later Butterfield helped to rebuild the league after it had fallen to six teams in the mid-1970s
