This off-season series of players that either broke out or failed to do so in the 2023-24 season continues, and today we get to Columbus Blue Jackets winger Kent Johnson

Following a 16-goal, 40-point rookie season, Johnson managed just 16 points in 42 games as a sophomore. He was demoted to the AHL in November and ended his season in March due to a torn labrum. Let’s look at what went right as a rookie, what went wrong as a sophomore, and what fantasy managers can hope for in the future. 

What stood out immediately for the 2021 Draft’s fifth pick was his work in transition. He was easily a standard deviation above the league average (53.2%) by zone entries carried in (61.8%), and among the 291 forwards with at least 225 tracked minutes at 5-on-5, he was among the top forwards in the league
