Welcome back to another edition of Prospect Prosepctive. In this series, we’ll be looking at a prospect who has yet to establish himself in the NHL. We’ll examine the reasons for this and what fantasy upside remains. Today’s focus is Mavrik Bourque who was drafted 30th overall by the Dallas Stars in 2020.

The EP Rinkside staff ranked Bourque 13th in 2020 so seeing him slide to 30th was a bit of a surprise. Being a little on the smaller side at 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds likely didn’t help his case to go higher. There were also concerns stated in the guide like “he takes way too many nights off” and “I cannot believe how high you rated him.” The flipside was all the positive commentary from coaches and colleagues, which seemed to centre around his hockey intelligence.
