For many teams, Monday was a big cut day. 

Some teams, those with a loaded preseason slate this week that features back-to-backs, will likely wait until Wednesday or Thursday, but for nine NHL clubs Monday was about clearing space and finally cutting two practice groups into one. 

Twenty-eight players were waived, here are seven who could be intriguing pickups or at least discussed for selection by other NHL clubs. 

Jan Jeník, Arizona Coyotes – If you can’t carve out an NHL roster spot in Arizona, you likely aren’t going to have many chances anywhere else. Jenik has been a peripheral piece in the desert the past three seasons, playing 17 combined NHL games and failing to produce much of anything. 

He has been a force in the AHL, and maybe that’s enough for another NHL team to give him a chance
