Doerrie's Deets: Friday, February 26th

Bob Frid - USA TODAY Sports
NHL

This is the debut of Doerrie's Deets, a bi-monthly column in which I share my scouting thoughts, NHL analysis, and some behind-the-curtain musings from the people closest to the levers of power in the hockey world.

Think of it this way: the NHL is providing us with a six-pack of Chicken McNuggets, and I'm offering the hot mustard, sweet-n-sour, and bbq sauce with which to elevate them from deep-fried, plain lumps of chicken to their rightful spot atop the fast food hierarchy.

When I'm not following the sport I love at a rink or on this medium, I'm pursuing a Master of Science in Analytics and Sport Science at York University. The research is primarily focused on identifying NHL drafting and development inefficiencies, with the goal of building a holistic talent identification and development strategy. Every research Masters has its twists and turns, so I'm sure that will change a little bit, but any research tidbits I share will be applicable to hockey.

Anyone familiar with my work co-hosting the Staff & Graph Podcast (and if you're not, come on now) with Mike Stephens knows to expect the sass. It's coming. There will be concise thoughts, a far-cry from my long-form analysis that usually finds its home in this space.

Without any further silliness, let's get to the good stuff.
