Hey, it’s the end of Week 3 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. And the Battle of Alberta is already off the rails.

The first game of the series featured 15 goals, with three goaltenders combining to make a whopping 75 stops (combined .840 save percentage). And with the Calgary Flames winning 9-6, thanks to an empty-netter, the Flames became the first team to score nine times in a playoff game since the Pittsburgh Penguins did it — and then added one more in a 10-3 win — in 2012. Those are the only two teams in the cap era to pull off the feat.

Interestingly, the Penguins went on to lose to the Flyers in that playoff, a series that featured 56 goals in six games. Feels like the Battle of Alberta can pass that by Game 5.
