EP Rinkside Mailbag: Summer fun and salary cap fun

Look, there's nothing happening in the league now. It's mid-August and we all know and accept that. So I thought I'd have a little fun in the mailbag this week and take questions about all kinds of stuff, not just the goings-on, such as they are, in the league today.

Let’s get to it:

John asks: "The flat cap and total and constant parity is bumming me out, with 50 percent of the off-season moves being strictly cap-related and way harder now that so many teams wanna spend to the cap. Pitch me your best solution. Luxury tax? Designated players? No cap?"

For those who aren't familiar — and I have to admit, I have only a passing understanding of how the system works — designated players are big stars signed by Major League Soccer teams for huge contracts that do not fully count against the salary
