Minnesota Wild acquire defenceman Zach Bogosian from Tampa Bay Lightning for draft pick

The Minnesota Wild have followed up this morning's Calen Addison trade by using that newly created cap space to acquire defenceman Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Bogosian, 33, is in the final season of a three-year pact that he signed with the Lightning during the 2021 offseason, a deal that carries an $850,000 annual cap charge. This deal included a 21-team no-trade list, per our friends at CapFriendly, meaning the Wild were among the 11 teams left off of that list.

Through four games with the Lightning this season, Bogosian is yet to find the scoresheet in, well, any capacity really – doughnuts across the board on his Elite Prospects profile. The Wild probably aren't banking on Bogosian to create much offence, though. He's a rugged, physical right-shot defenceman with ample playoff experience and a Stanley Cup ring.

In total, the Wilds manoeuvring for the day sees them exchange Addison and a 2025 seventh-round pick for Bogosian, Adam Raška, and a 2026 fifth-round pick. The priorities here seem clear: Get harder to play against.

The Wild sit fourth in the Central Division as of this writing with 12 points on the strength of a 5-5-2 record, one point out of a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. They've won two straight and their next game is Thursday, visiting the New York Rangers at 4 PM Eastern time.
