Take Town: Panic, or don't panic?

I saw on the news the other day that people in Hawaii are really on the lookout for something to happen with Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano. Lots of earthquakes there lately, and we're more than 40 years out from its last eruption, so basically everyone on the Big Island is checking their watches and waiting for this thing to blow.

And this is a protracted analogy for the NHL right now. It kinda feels like something seismic is about to happen, with some obvious candidates (including one we'll get to in a minute) as well as the real possibility that a number of smaller-but-still important things occur.

At this point, it definitely feels like a matter of When and not If we get some potentially earth-shattering news in the league.
