Vegas Golden Knights acquire Jonathan Quick from Columbus Blue Jackets

So much for Jonathan Quick, Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender. Less than 48 hours after they acquired him from the Los Angeles Kings, they've dealt Quick back to the Pacific Division, sending him to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Michael Hutchinson and a seventh-round pick.

Quick, 37, is a pending unrestricted free agent in the final season of a 10-year contract that carries a $5.8 million cap charge. His form has been in significant decline since about 2018, but he put in a renaissance season last year with a .910 save percentage. The hope in Vegas is that they can coax that out of him or at least something close to while Logan Thompson and Laurent Brossoit are on injured reserve.

When Thompson returns, one would have to assume that Quick will either be the backup or up in the press box — barring him turning the clock back half a decade down the stretch run here.

Quick has an 11-13-4 record with an .876 save percentage and a -17.03 goal saved above expected (per Evolving Hockey). There is a 16 percent chance that the Golden Knights face the Kings in the first round of the playoffs (per HockeyViz).
