What We Learned: Prices too high for rentals right now

For the sake of our friends in the TV industry, it’s time to start hoping general managers from selling teams will lower their asking prices quite a bit, or it’s going to be another dud of a trade-deadline broadcast.

For the past few days, the asking prices for various types of assets around the league have become a bit clearer as more teams decide to pull the chute on a lost season. That also means clarity around what various types of players will cost buyers. And so far, rival GMs might be considering getting the Federal Trade Commission on the line for price gouging.

For instance, Elliotte Friedman recently reported that in their hunt for a dependable goaltender, the Edmonton Oilers recently asked the Philadelphia Flyers about Martin Jones in exchange for a fifth-round pick, but was rebuffed despite the fact that Jones is in the midst of his fourth straight season of well-below-average hockey.
