It feels like the Four Nations Face-Off was the turning point.

Before that tournament started, the St. Louis Blues were 25-26-5, a poor record that had them eight points and three teams out of a playoff spot. That position had them talking about trading their captain, Brayden Schenn, and maybe their goalie, Jordan Binnington.

But the trade deadline was still weeks away and GM Doug Armstrong reportedly set the prices on those players pretty high, and Binnington's performance at Four Nations moved the ask even higher.

What made it impossible for the Blues to trade those guys, or anyone else, was the two weeks between Binnington winning gold and the deadline itself. St. Louis roared into March, going 5-1-1, widely outshooting their opponents, and making it all but impossible for Armstrong to do
