Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice announces sudden resignation

Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice resigned from his position Friday morning, saying he feels that he is unable to push the Jets to their full potential anymore. Assistant coach Dave Lowry was named the interim head coach and will be behind the bench Friday night when the Jets host the Washington Capitals. 

The news came as a surprise since the Jets have generally been a good team under Maurice, though there has been a sense of underachievement in recent seasons. Currently, the Jets are fifth in the Central Division with 31 points and ninth in the Western Conference in points percentage (.554). The Jets went 315-223-62 in the regular season in just over nine seasons with Maurice behind the bench and reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs four times, going as far as the Conference Final in 2018 when
