Player Biography and Trivia

Luděk Čajka passed away on February 14, 1990. On January 6, 1990, he had suffered severe spinal injuries after colliding with Anton Bartanus of VSŽ Košice and crashing into the boards in an icing race. The injuries left Čajka paralyzed and comatose.

The accident led to the implementation of the "no-touch" icing rule in European and IIHF hockey.
