Beliveau, 83, died on December 2, 2014, in Longueuil, Que.
Number 4 retired by Montréal Canadiens
Cult/Star player for Montréal Canadiens
"Le Gros Bill" refused to sign for the Canadiens for a long time, because he didn't want to play professionally. The Canadiens ended up buying the entire Quebec Senior Hockey League and making it a pro league, forcing Béliveau to sign with the NHL's Canadiens. Béliveau was thought to be the most complete center of all time. He could do it all, even fight. Most of all, he was an elegant player and a gentleman, on and off the ice.
