Forward från Örebroklubben IK Sturehov. Fruktad för sitt stenhårda skott.
Debuterade i allsvenskan 1960/61 för Västerås IK men har även spelat allsvenskt med AIK.
Var flitigt nyttjad i juniorlandslaget och ansågs som en av Sveriges stora talanger i slutet av 1950-talet. Trots det så fick bara Hallgren chansen i Tre Kronor vid ett tillfälle. Det var 1962 i Göteborg då Sverige slog tillbaka Finland med 8-2. Hallgren svarade för ett av målen och spelade i tredjekedjan tillsammans med Hans "Tjalle" Mild från Djurgården och lagkamraten i Västerås, Uno "Garvis" Öhrlund.
