Sign up for premiumRichard P. "Dick" Tinkham was the co-founder of the American Basketball Association and the owner of the ABA and later the NBA Indiana Pacers. In 1973, he and Pacers General Manager and President John Weissert were awarded a WHA franchise that became known as the Indianapolis Racers. They opted to sell the franchise to Paul Deneau in December 1974. Tinkham passed away on October 14, 2018.
