Bernard John 'Bernie' Ebbers was a billionaire who made his fortune in telecommunications business during the dot-com boom. He was sentenced for 25 years in prison, after being charged with conspiracy, securities fraud and filing false statements, following a lengthy legal process that lasted from 2003 to 2006.

He was also a co-owner of the Jackson Bandits, having acquired the ECHL franchise from Michael Caggiano on July 6, 1999. He sold his stake in the franchise to Isaac Byrd, Brian Fenelon and Billy Mounger following his resignation as the CEO of WorldCom telecommunications company on April 30, 2002.

Ebbers died on February 2, 2020.
