J.L. Holloway made his fortune in construction, building offshore drilling platforms. He was also a co-owner of the Jackson Bandits, having acquired the ECHL franchise from Michael Caggiano on July 6, 1999.
Holloway sought to construct the Bandits a new arena, but this plan did not come to fruition. After Bernie Ebbers sold his stake to Isaac Byrd, Brian Fenelon and Billy Mounger, the franchise started to struggle, lasting only one more season before folding following the 2002-03 season.
