Carlyle was selected 30th overall in 1976 after scoring 79 points with the Sudbury Wolves. He won the Norris Trophy in 1981 after leading all defensemen with 67 assists and 83 points. He was a 5x 15-goal scorer and reached the 40-point mark in 9 seasons. Carlyle retired in 1993 with 148 goals and 499 assists. He won a Stanley Cup in 2007 as Head Coach of the Anaheim Ducks.
