Jerry Zucker, his wife Anita and their son Jonathan were part of an investor group that bought the South Carolina Stingrays, after buying it from the Stingrays Mgt. Inc., a group of Canadian investors, Marcel Dionne, Tony Maida and Frank Milne, on March 20, 1995.

He also became one of the owners of the Charlotte Checkers after he bought a minority stake in the ECHL franchise from George Shinn and Ray Wooldridge on May 23, 2002. He sold his stake in the franchise to Michael Kahn on June 28, 2006.

He died on April 12, 2008.
